ABSTRACT

This study was conducted on 911 first trimester pregnant patients attending the Antenatal Care Clinic at Mansoura University Hospital. Rubella, Toxoplasmosis, Syphilis and HBV can pose a significant hazard to pregnant patient, her fetus and probably her attendants. So, the immune status to these infectious agents became a mandatory procedure in order to reduce fetal, maternal risks. Rubella IgG antibodies were detected in 89.9% [819/911]. However, Toxo-IgG incidence was 34.7% [316/911], while Toxo-IgM detection rate was 0.99% [9/911]. Hepatitis B surface antigen was detected in 1.1% [10/911]. A lowest detection rate was obtained with Syphilis 0.22% [2/911]. Concomitant infections were detected with Rubella-IgG and Toxo-IgG in 28.5% [260/911], followed by Rubella-IgG and HBs antigen in 0.66% [6/911], while combined Rubella-IgG Toxo-IgG and HBs antigen were detected in only 0.33% [3/911]

ABSTRACT

The significance of determination of amniotic fluid index [AFI] has been evaluated for antepartum fetal surveillance in 100 cases of pregnancy induced hypertension [PIH]. All the women were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, ultrasound assessment of AFI and fetal biometry. The frequency of oligohydramnios [AFI <5cm] in cases of PIH range from 8-10%, while the frequency of borderline oligohydramnios was 20%. Oligohydramnios was associated with abnormal FHR 70%, meconium stained AF grade II or III 70%, cesarean section CS for fetal distress 70%, 1-min. Apgar score <7 60%, and 5-min. Apgar score <7 20%. Also, AFI [<5 cm] was important in the prediction of fetal growth retardation in 60% of cases, while its negative predictive value was 83%. On the other hand, PIH with normal AFI had favorable findings regarding fetal outcome

ABSTRACT

The significance of amniotic fluid index [AFI] has been evaluated for antepartum fetal survival in 100 cases of pregnancy induced hypertension [PIH]. The results revealed that the frequency of oligohydramnios [AFI <5] in severe PIH is double that of mild PIH and AFI is inversely proportional to severity of PIH. Oligohydramnios is associated with abnormal FHR [70%], meconium stained AF grade II or III [70%], cesaren section [CS] for fetal distress [70%], 1-min Apgar score <7 [60%], and 5-min Apgar score <7 [20%]. The study concluded that AFI is simple, safe, reliable and noninvasive method antepartum fetal surveillance. It was proposed that AFI should replace AF pocket in fetal biophysical profile

ABSTRACT

Systemic injection of ergometrine and oxytocics for hypertensive and cardiac patients constitutes a real risk. 100 patients were included in this study, all were hypertensive except 5 cardiac patients. Different oxytocics were injected in the umbilical vein in the 3rd stage of labor in 55 hypertensive and 5 cardiac patients compared with distilled water in 20 parturient and another 20 patients received nothing. Those who received intraumbilical [IU] vein prostaglandin E2 had significantly shorter mean placental separation time followed by oxytocin and lastly ergometrine and distilled water. There is a decreased incidence of postpartum hemorrhage and retension of the placenta and increase in the mean hemoglobin on the second postpartum day. There is no significant difference of the mean arterial blood pressure and pulse rate before and after injection of umbilical vein by these oxytocics. Oxytocin and ergometrine IU vein injection appeared to be safer and effective compared to prostaglandin E2 and nothing. So, IU vein injection of oxytocin and ergometrine is recommended in hypertensive and cardiac patients as a preventive approach for postpartum hemorrhage in those high risk group rather than systemic injection

ABSTRACT

A total of 144 norplant users and 50 non-users [control group] have been submitted for colposcopic and histopathologic evaluation of the cervix after 3 years of insertion of norplant. No significant changes between studied groups were observed. However, norplant users showed a higher percentage of squamous metaplasia, papillomatous formation and cyclic dilatation. No CIN cases were diagnosed in both groups. The use of norplant has no adverse or undesirable effect on the cervix. In spite of this promising safety, norplant users must be checked up routinely both clinically and histologically at appropriate intervals

ABSTRACT

The predictive value of embryonic cardiac activity has been evaluated in 113 cases for evolution of early pregnancy using M-mode of transvaginal sonography [TVS]. The results revealed that embryonic heart rate [EHR] varied considerably, from 78 to 172 beat/min. at 5-12 weeks gestation and the mean EHR has increased significantly from 86 beat/min at fifth week to 158 beat/min at ninth week. It also disclosed that 16.6% of cases recorded persistent and progressive embryonic bradycardia [a cutoff level of 100 beat/min] and of these, 88.89% aborted spontaneously. On the other hand, incidental bradycardia is an insignificant signal and does not predict spontaneous abortion [P >0.05]. The study concluded that persistent embryonic bradycardia is a reliable predictor of spontaneous abortion in the first trimester. The issue should be addressed to all obstetricians

ABSTRACT

In this study, 109 infertile couples due to male factor were evaluated to compare the results of [IUI husband] and [DIPI- husband] in normal and stimulated cycles. The study revealed that IUI and DIPI are of minimal therapeutic effect in the treatment of male factor of infertility in normal cycles. However, when the cycle were stimulated the conception rate increased from 5.2% to 11.3% in IUI and increased from 3.6% to 10.3% in DIPI. There are in male infertility IUI and DIPI with stimulated cycles deserve trial before attempting the more invasive, costly and complicated assisted reproductive technology

ABSTRACT

This work was carried out to study the chemical composition, characteristics and nutritive value of Aswan High Ham Lake bolti [Tilapia nilotica] viscera. Bolti viscera was analyzed before and after cooking. FPC was prepared by ethanol-hexane extraction method. FPC was stored at room temperature for 6 months. the data were compared with the FAO/WHO references. High Dam lake bolti viscera had 72.51% moisture, 12.19% protein 9.89% fat, 4.52% ash, and 0.89% carbohydrates. Protein [44.34%], fat [35.98%] and ash [16.44%] constituted 96.76% of total solids indicating that bolti viscera was a good source for three mentioned nutrients. After cooking the moisture content reduced which increased other components. Yield of FPC was24.95% of fresh viscera weight. During storage of FPC at room temperature for 6 months, the changes of gross chemical composition were very slight

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on 200 non-pregnant women, with ages ranging from 18 up to 48 years. They attended the gynaecologic outpatient clinic, at Mansoura University Hospital. They include 150 women with cervical erorsion and suspicious cervix and 50 women with clinically healthy cervices as controls. A posterior vaginal pool and cervical scraps smears were obtained from each woman using the plastic spatula and stained by Papanicolaou stain. There was an increased incidence of dysplasia among parous women than nulliparous women. Also we found 3 cases of invasive carcinoma of the cervix among the suspicious cervix group and this was proved histopathologically. The chief complaint of cases with cervical erosion was excessive vaginal discharge [57%]. The incidence of dysplasia among cervical erosion groups was 34% [41 out of 120 cases], while the incidence in the suspicious cervix group 52% [14 out of 27 cases] no cases of dysplasia had been found in the control group. We can recommend that each woman during her reproductive period must be checked up by routine cervico-vaginal cytology every 6 months to detect and early lesion which could be easily dealt with as early as possible and abort it before it grows up
